As could be expected, on arriving at the lake for my first session on a Sunday morning in June, I paid the bailiff for my syndicate ticket and strolled down the lake with two rods, a chair and a holdall. A little sandwich tub with packets of terminal tackle and the rest of the space taken up with different size and flavour pellets, three different pop-ups, and a rather large selection of half used bags of shelflife baits I had gathered during the last year for fishing on a dayticket lake closeby. Needless to say I blanked. From reading in mags and chatting to people I figured that the best way to catch some fish is to use the "going" bait ... was I in for a shock.
Started chatting to the bailiffs on the lake, while I was blanking, and all of them had the same thing to say ... "get on the Ocean's". It seemed like the most popular bait was Vision Baits Ocean Protein fished with a neon green dayglo corn on the hair. No problem, I thought, and went over to the local carp tackle rip-off artist ... sorry, tacklestore and paid my hardearned £12 for a kilo bag of Ocean Protein freezerbaits. Got home and immediately "portioned" it out into 200gr session bags ... silly me.
Well, imagine all the fun I had going for an overnight session with my 200gr of boilies, kilo of matching pellets, put one on the hair, small bag of pellets, and shoot 3 or 4 out in the general area of my hookbait. Well, for most of nine months ... I blanked. Did I try everything? Yes, from company A shelflifes all the way through company Z frozen baits. I finally managed to catch my first carp from the lake in
