It's nice to see people interested in Perch again. Not all about big carp from France then! Still looking for my first 3lb'er but hopefully it wont be long.

The Elusive Barbel....

I've always fancied catching a Barbel from a River.
Though I have caught some from commercial 'pools' I don't really count them as such.

Since the beginning of this year's river season i've been trying the Sussex Ouse, which is rumoured to contain fish to double-figures, although the general view is that the water can best be described as 'tricky'!

So far i've probably done around 30 rod-hours and have yet to make contact with a Barbel, although I have caught a few Eels and spotted a fair few… Continue

Cat session at Manor Farm, June 24th

Finally got round to booking myself a 24hr ticket at Manor fisheries in Headcorn after hearing very good things about the Catfish lake and the lakes in general.

Turned up late afternoon and was very pleased with what I saw.
There are 2 Specimen lakes, both of which are probably no more than 1.5 acres in size. What they lack in size they certainly make up for in features though, with reeds, islands, bushes and trees aplenty.

Made the descision straight from the off that I would fish one rod to… Continue

Even when it all goes wrong, it's still better than work!

Monday 9th June - Charlie's Lake

It all started nicely enough when I was awoken by blazing sunshine coming through my bedroom curtains at 9am, followed immediately what must have been some of the hottest weather this year so far.
Time to get the Cat rods out and go for a sneaky overnighter then!

After doing a few errands I stopped off at Jack Frost Tackle to collect some Lobworm and Maggot.
Having learned the hard way some years ago to ensure these creatures are kept WELL away fr… Continue

First Overnight of the year - Charlie's Lake

The weekend of 30th + 31st May saw me treating long-time Angling Pal John Lee to a trip to Charlie's Lake in Ashford, Kent. I drove down from Crawley to meet John at the lake for about 11am on the Friday, but in typical style I was running late and when I turned up at 1230pm John had already had a 10lb Cat.
I was particularly pleased for him as it was his first of the species, and you never forget that one!
Only downer was that I told him I had the camera sorted and he didn't need to bring one -… Continue

This year's targets

I like to set myself goals every season, whether or not I actually acheive them usually depends on the amount of time I can get on the bank due to work etc.
All of the following targets will all be from the UK, i'm not fishing abroad anytime in the near future.

Carp - 30lb+

Wels Catfish - 20lb+

Chub - 5lb 8oz +

Perch - 4lb+

Barbel - 6lb+

I'll be concentrating mainly on the Barbel and Cats until the Autumn, i'll let you know how I get on.
