Just coming back to fishing and need some fresh idea's for bait, i normally use maggots, bread, sweetcorn, luncheon meat, dog / cat food and have tried sugar puffs. Does anyone use anything different or can anyone suggest a good bate or easy bait reciepe???

I found a recipe in anglers mail. Originol vitalin, molasses, dump in some hemp, sweetcorn and water. Ends up as a semi sticky mass that you can lob for miles and goes straight to thebottom. Sticks well to a method feeder as well. Get the molasses from a saddlery, paid £5.50 for a 5L container - suggest keeping somewhere warm so it stays runny (mine lives in the airing cupboard).
I am also wondering if you can foat fish popcorn? It's white, light and whatever you do it neverseems to sink!

depending on what else you add, i think you can go for most fish from carp, to chub to maybe barble at a stretch. i've had roach and a small carp myself. A suggestion though - my wife goes through about 5-7 tins of tuna in oil a week, i now get her to save the oil in a large coffee jar and add it, along with a whole tin of tuna to the mix

How about trying marzipan wrapped around a cork ball, works well for me, chick peas are a good bait as an alternative to sweetcorn and they take on flavours fairly easily, I use marshmallows instead of dog biscuits as my local lakes population of carp have more dog biscuits thrown at them in the summer than my dogs could eat!

Also, when I use vitalin I add a couple of tins of condensed milk to the mix, it's really sticky and slows the breakdown time if you're looking to put a carpet of bait down for the fish, I also liquidise at least 1/2 the sack as this helps it to bind better and leaves less for the fish to fill themselves up on, dead maggots are a good additive to keep the fish in your swim too.
