a good workman never blames there tools? well i do! (the one that got away)

a good workman never blames there tools? this old saying isn't up to much really when you think about it, im really hacked off with this crappy carp reel i bought from used tackle in skeggy. At first the reel looked lovely and worked just fine banked a few carp and a load of jack pike on it but all cheap things must come to an end, and earlier today (sat) whilst legering worms on a light quiver rod to try and tempt a big perch at the orton mere lock i thought id stick a hair rigged pellet out on a second bonus rod (with my shitty cheap ass made in china reel). My attention was mainly focused on my quiver tip but something splashing on the top of the water took my gaze which was when i saw the bait runner giving line, i wound the reel til the bait runner clicked off and struck at first i thought a drifting log had swept past and snagged my tackle but logs don't fight and no more than 2 seconds after hooking the clutch or something has decided to die so no matter how fast i try reeling in the line it just let it back out again and another 10 seconds later with a heck of a bump it was off gutted. probably a nice barbel and iv yet to catch a barbel but i live to fish another day and have learn't a valuable lesson, you pay next to nothing expect to get next to nothing.....

In my experience used tackle is usually fine, i think this is an isolated incedent

the shop is called 'used tackle' mate its all new but cheap crap! looks the business until you use the stuff a few times and then it falls apart!

i couldnt give a hoot about that reel or even the lost fish anymore someone robbed all my tackle this morning was so mad felt like flinging the cat out the window poor fluffy git. spent 20 quid on bait but have nothing to fish with i could feed the fish i suppose but it wont be much fun without a rod line and hook really :(

Sorry about the one that got away, but I'm with Thomas on this one. Bought plenty of kit from Used Tackle and never had a problem. I know it's all cheap kit, but it came in handy when my nephew decided all he wanted to do was fish. Rather than spend a couple of hundred pounds in our local tackle shop, we took him to Used Tackle. About £30 later and he had all the kit he needed. Unfortunatley, his interest in fishing didn't last as long as the warrenty on his tackle!!

I have bought quite a few bits from used tackle/dragon carp and have had no problems, I reckon it was user error.

sorry without trying to sound rude! 1. where you there? A. NO. 2.So therefore how would you know if it was me that was was to blame for a crappy £10 pound reel malfunctioning. I have been fishing on and off since i was 3 so that a good 20 years worth of experience. i will be purchasing a known make set of reels as i do enough fishing now to warrant spending a few hundred quid on reels.

Try the okuma range i use epick pros for my barbel fishing they have plenty of good features and the gearing is strong enough not to be chewed to bits when mr whiskers powers off down river.
