Fancy a chance at being in the british pike squad in 2009. The qualifier is to be held later this year, date / venue to be anounced later. it will be a two day roving match. sometimes the banks can be steep / slippery, so you would need to be able bodied. if you would like me to send you the full details as they become available. reply below. regards. carl. Hi, good point. the match is 2 days of roving pike fishing. one rod only. any method except live baiting. you will have your scales checked on arrival, and be given an id card, and score card. you dont weigh your own fish. it works like this: you will be given an id card of a certain colour. ie. red for cambridgeshire ect. when you catch a pike it must be weighed and written on your "score" card by a fellow angler of a different colour region. scores are totted up at the end of day one. and added to your day two score. giving you a total weight over the two days. top ten weights will make the squad for 2008. the top weight will be team captain. 10 in the team with 2 reserves. (whoever came 11 and 12th) cash prize (not large) for day one winner and biggest fish. the same for day two. also a raffle on day two at the presentation.

Thanks for the info mate, when it comes to rods will we be allowed to carry 2 rods but only use 1, i.e 1 deadbait and 1 lure rod? if you get what i mean?

Hi Douglas, you are only allowed one rod with you while fishing. i always carry a spare rod and reel in the car, if i need it. a good bet is to be mobile, a "bum bag" or small back pack is good. you will need a landing net and a sack or tube (incase you have to wait a couple of mins to get weighed in. and an unhooking kit. the rod i use is 12ft 2.5tc soft action. it serves me well for all methods on the day. regards. carl
