Personally i believe he should not as there is a possibilty he was poaching but the most important thing is he did not have a rod licence

i still think he should claim the record personally , as its one of the very few records held in our area ....the only other one i believe is the huge tench from sheepswalk lakes in shepperton .... it would be good to have this record added to the brfc , but fishing without a licence is wrong , and would of been alot happier for the other guy fishing with him that day to have caught it , as he did have a valid licence ...... dont forget , the brfc can throw out any claim for the slightest little thing if they are not happy , and to be honest , they should throw this one out on the basis that it is almost promoting the fact that its ok to fish without a licence ..... i know im contradicting myself from the comment at the start of this reply , and that its wrong to fish without a licence ...... if he had held a valid one then i would be over the moon for him !!!

first off good question.with regards to the licence thats a bit out of order but who do you blame him or his mate ?.He should have been told to get a licence by his mate. The capture of the fish should definately by recorded but weather or not rob should take credit for it is another thing. The other problem is the curent record holder who is a well known and respected angler who was fishing legaly with a valid rod licence. Im shore he has one or two things to say about it.

my view is, no no no. record fish or not, ive not looked into this capture, just the fact of no rod licence is enough to make my blood boil. how the hell can we get other people to stick to the rules (eastern europeans) if we carnt stick to the rules ourselfs! i say do not allow the record claim, and prosecute the guy for no rod licence. bet hes bought one now, what an idiot!

the idea of a record list is to record the biggest fish caught to rod and line of each species .fact.
this is the biggest perch ever recorded as being caught by rod and line and should therefore take its place on the list the issue should be whether the captor gets his details added to the list . the answer to this should be NO .
the E.A should also prosecute him and fine him to show that its not ok to fish without a licence.

point taken, i agree 100%

i dont think the fish looks the weight anyway.he,s poached, had no licence.who,s to say he,s not fibbing about the weight

and who's to say he is peter ?
unfortunately for him, like me , he's a big bloke and as i have found out myself photos can be deceiving. i'm 6'6 and 24 stone and am 30 inches wide across the shoulders !
i have several photos of myself holding big fish that look decidely average but in any normal sized persons hands would look like absolutely monstrous specimens. (one in particular thats springs to mind is a 35lb carp that only looks like a 25lber)
i have also seen pictures of small fish held out at arms length that look huge! obviously to any moderately experienced eye these photo's are blatantly out of proportion but the anglers still feel the need to exagerate the weight ?!?

I'll back up what Big Kev has said there too, I've seen the fish and taken the photos, and the fish look really small in the photo, I don't disbelieve the weight of the Perch, but agree with his name not connected with the fish, but it has to go down as a record in my eyes, he should also be prosecuted for not having a licence.

if your 6ft 6 and 24 stone mate,then i agree with you!seriously though,i can see your point

im not shore really. on one hand he could have been poaching AND he didnt have a rod licence.
But in my personal view a record is a record and he did beat it!

as has been mentioned i think the record should stand as it is the biggest perch caught on rod and line BUT Mr. Townsend should not get the credit fo catching and the record should only state where the fish was caught. If he is not prosecuted for fishing without a licence then what is the point of anyone buying one!! its not as if there is any doubt he admitted it!!!! I know if it had happened where i live (Northern Ireland) he would have been prosecuted straight away!!
