has anyone actually tried carp to eat that is what does it taste like etc ive never had pike either
but in the past i,ve had cod haddock dog fish bla, hhch not nice i had tried lobster recently and would rather eat crab & i allways thought lobster was for posh people dont know what all the fuss is about lobster

anyway back to carp i know its frowned upon but when i was pike fishing in vastervick sweden the polish fishermen thought i was mad returning fish every fish they caught perch roach bream pike carp anything so its just not one type of fish being targeted its all of,em and its just what they do" but then again in our country they should respect our rules catch and return

if they want to eat carp etc well go to the supermarkets etc and buy the farmed carp/fish and maybe this would keep some of them of the banks

why do you consider it bloomin wrong nigel ?

I to think it's wrong to eat carp. But i watched a program about eating farmed carp which only grow to about 2-3lb.
No i don't want to know what they taste like either. But if it stops our eastern European friends from taking carp weighing 5 10 or even 20lb from venues just to have fish & chips for tea, then i'm all in favor of Morrisons or Tesco selling farm carp.
We can't stop them from eating it but maybe we can stop the raiding our lakes and rivers.

why is it wrong to eat carp ? i don't see anything wrong in it at all. its actually quite tasty and thats coming from someone who doesn't really like eating fish purely on taste grounds not moral ones!
why is it such a shock to see farmed carp on the supermarket ice and yet eating cod which are becoming fished out in our waters is acceptable . the problem arises when the immigrant population steal fish from private water .if they have a rod licence then they are not in the wrong for taking a fish from a river unless the law is changed. we have several polish workers were i work and they have all told me that they dont like to eat big carp of more than a few pounds to eat as they taste muddy when they get bigger so i'm all for farmed fish to be sold at the supermarket.

Over here in Ireland we dont have the fishery management that you have in the UK,i.e no day tickets or bailiffs checking the waters, and carp are being sold in the bigger supermarkets too. As far as I know these carp are imported and if your not sure ask the shop manager where they come from. If these people who eat carp cant buy them in the shops where do you think their going to get them?? I think I know so maybe its better if they are sold so theres no excuse for anyone to catch and kill the fish in your local day ticket water. Over here its the anglers who are keeping an eye on the lakes and rivers and we cant be around all the time to protect our fishing. Its a sad sight to see while your in tescos etc but better the devil you know is what I say. It could be your local pond getting emptied of its stock.

morning nigel. i think this is just the way things are going and we do have to remember that the reason carp were introduced to this country in the first place was as food fish. i think the place we need to concentrate on is the difference between buying and stealing. i can buy trout from the supermarket, i can go and pay to fish and take trout from a fishery but if i take it without permission it is poaching or theft. we need to make sure the same distinctions and protections are firmly enforced on carp.

the same distinctions and protections should be firmly enforced on all coarse fish . but i personally would rather see a ten-a-penny 4lb carp on the plate than a specimen 4lb perch or chub

i think if i saw someone intending to eat a 4lb perch or chub i would feel an overwhelming urge to apply said fish to the opposite end of the digestive tract from the mouth with force.

Thanks for all your responces, am very gratefull. I will now look at it in a different light now. Like Big Kev said at least this way it might keep the poachers at bay. Also as they are being produced to eat and not fished then every thing is o.k.( I suppose i was just a little shocked when i first saw it.) LOL.
MIGHT EVEN GO AND TRY SOME, YOU NEVER KNOW.
Cheers all......NIGE.
