As it's so close to the Big Day, I was just wondering what awful innapproriate 'fishing' related Christmas presents you have had given by non-angling relatives thinking they've bought you something useful? Singing fish don't count!

i've just been bought a 45" brolly with 2 guy lines. Practical and it'll keep the wind off till I get around to buying a propper bivvy or shelter.

that dont sound too awful to me! i got my parents to get my youngest one of the junior outfits from argos to learn with. we went out yesterday and he caught bleak and chublets with it. i am going to respool it with proper line then i reckon it'll do a grand job for him to start with.

lol ive had some classics in the past
i have received a travel set of mini french boules from my wife's gran and i qoute "thought they might pass the time between you catching fish"!!!
a jumbo mug with "fisherman know how to use their tackle" emblazened across it (on the plus side was it was full of chocolate fishes ....mmmmm chocolate)
a tiny hip flask with a trout picture engraved on it and three pin badges of trout and fly reels ? i dont do trout fishing!

i always say to relatives at xmas if your not sure what to get me the local tackle shop do gift vouchers but it never works

So what are all those spotted things you keep catching from the weirpools then Kev?

I was given some really cheap weighing scales(goes up to 4lb)and made of plastic, this year.
But over the years i too have recieved many odd things.
2 years ago got given a Matt Hayes total fishing gear BEGINNERS SET.(i am 36 and been fishing since i was eight). My son uses it now and he is nine.
Had numerous fish shaped mugs. Now i have quite a few and they are on a shelf in full view.(THATS SAD).
Finally every year someone seems to get me all in one tools(scissors, knife, scalestorch etc.etc.) the ones you get from tescos or asda etc.etc....WHY......
You cant beet the tackle shops(i think the non fisherman get embarresed when they go in,thats why we get silly things.)

I have about a dozen of those things knocking around my garage lol . i have to admit that i did use the disgorger on one once when i could'nt find my normal one

Thats the funniest thing, we always moan about them, then we keep em hoarded togeather in the shed/garage,but do we ever get rid of them? NO.

you just know the day you get rid of them will be the day you find a use for them!

I got an all-in-one knife thing from my wife's aunt, exactly the same useless thing she bought me 2 years ago, and that's never been used either!!

Fishing socks, as in just a normal pair of socks with a 'witty' comment on them. Not some useful like thermals!

And I know a mate who had a singing fish. First time I'd ever come across one (about 10 years ago) couldn't stop laughing
