How often should you take off your old line and replace it with new a line?
I havn't changed mine for over 3 years on all my reels. Is that a bad thing to do or does it really matter?

every 10 fishing trips i take off the top 20 metres of line mainly because i use fluoro and it tends to go greenish after a while.

i would probably change line when you notice any ware and tear or if it feels different or brittle. i've heard people say that you should change it every 2 years but i think it comes down to the quality of the line and how well it reacts to repeated use. either way, after 3 years i would overhaul all my line just to make sure it's in the best condition.

apparently it should be done at the end of every season. i do this because the line is all that connects you to a powerful fish and we would all hate to loose a big fish because our line was damaged. after three years the sun has probably faded and weakened your line now. hope this helps :)

IT does depend on how often you go. I had to change mine last week ,as on my last trip i noticed it breaking a bit too easily. Its been on for 2 years and i've done a fair bit of fishing in that time but not loads. I'd change it, you can get good offers on line so it doesn't cost much to do a few reels.

1 of the best tips i've been told is to take the line off and put it on the other way so that you are using the same line but line that hasn't been used. if you understand what im trying to say :S

One thing to bear in mind is sunlight is the major factor in line degradation, if your reels are kept away from direct sunlight, it will last longer, so try and keep your reels in a pouch when not in use, if I have a session in which I catch a lot of fish and the line gets a hammering (hasn't happened for years!!) I will strip the whole lot off and reload with new line. Some lines will last much longer than a couple of years, cheaper line works out expensive in the long run because it will not put up with too much abuse and the stretch makes it "pig-tail", if you suffer from line twist, go and buy a "Spin Doctor" they're made by Gardner and can add a fair few month's life to your line.

I mostly use braid & it lasts for years.

i change my line every season but take about 15 yards of line off evry month or so, to avoid fishing on worn and fraid line.

hope this helps.

I replace my course line with every new season.
My carp reals get the line striped then but on back to front so the unused line on the back of the spool is now at the front of the spool is is unused and new, saves a few bob i can tell u.
